Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has introduced a groundbreaking ultra-fast charging system capable of delivering up to 400 kilometers (approximately 250 miles) of range in just five minutes. This innovation, part of BYD’s “Super e-Platform,” aims to match the convenience of traditional gasoline refueling times, addressing a significant barrier to widespread EV adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new charging system boasts a peak power output of 1,000 kilowatts (1 megawatt), utilizing a 1,000V high-voltage architecture and silicon carbide power electronics. This setup enables rapid charging rates, adding about 2 kilometers of range per second. BYD plans to roll out over 4,000 of these ultra-fast charging stations across China to support the new technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charging system will debut with BYD’s latest models, the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, which are equipped with the company’s advanced Blade lithium-iron phosphate batteries. These batteries are known for their safety and efficiency, further enhancing the appeal of BYD’s EV offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This development positions BYD ahead of competitors like Tesla, whose latest Superchargers offer up to 500 kW charging speeds.
